Anthropology and Paleoanthropology
It documents a part of the evaluation of the human species as well as the process of development of stone tools and instruments in Iran. This pavilion exhibits various features such as a number of human skeletons and skulls found in archaeological excavations in different parts of Iran.
For instance, a human skull shows one of the oldest examples of surgery (trephination) in ancient times. It belongs to a 13-year girl, dates back about 4900 years ago. It was found in Shahr-e Soukhteh (burned city) in Zabol-Sistan & Balouchistan Province in the southeast & Iran.
A unique skull is also exhibited in this section. It was discovered in Behbahan – in Khuzestan Province. The exact name is known (from the information on his dated tomb). Its date backs to 650 B.C.
another interesting exhibit is a corpse of an old woman, 60 to 70 years old, whose body was naturally mummified by environmental factors. The cadaver was found in Yazd.
